Dance-Centric- a Space for Cultural Exchange
"The body is the new region of exchange, the final frontier of the new “globalised” community"
-Padma Menon and Leo Spreksel
Mentoring the development of a new dance World
What is the necessity for a dancer to change tradition? What are the ways in which we can define modernity that is non-western? What is new within each tradition?
Padma has been mentoring processes of exchange for many years most recently as a teacher in the Rotterdam Dance Academy, in her own work with world renowned dancers from classical and modern dance as well as in working with diverse communities and its dance cultures.
Leo Spreksel is Artistic Director, Korzo Theater, The Hague and has been mentoring choreographers and dancers for the last 20 years. He has shaped the Dutch dance scene in an integral way by introducing and guiding many outstanding choreographers like Emio Greco and Andre Gingras.
This mentoring collaboration will be part of the “Dance-Centric” idea- a space for dance exchange-a meeting place of diverse dance cultures.
Dance-Centric will be a transformative space, not one of “fusion” or “assimilation” or “multi-culture” but one that will focus on intensely individual visions of cultural transformations. |
