Mudra for women-Powering dance to transform life
"The daily trance of a woman’s life is the untold story"
-Padma Menon
Dhuman technique embodies the “other” in life- the cyclical, symbolic, inner and intensely personal. Padma’s commitment to making visible the feminine universe is facilitated by her use of this technique to work with dancers and non-dancers who seek to discover and express this space.
Mudra has many levels of engaging with women. At basic levels women work with reinterpreting the idea of the “spiritual body” in personal ways. Intermediate classes turn towards our inner universe and find correspondences between dance and our life experiences. At advanced levels Dhuman facilitates dancers/choreographers to deal with mythical themes that resonate in their own lives.
The Dhuman space is non-verbal, focused on the “in-the-moment” flow of the dancing body. In keeping with the core of Indian dance Dhuman seeks not catharsis but transformation.
Through dance, Mudra aims to facilitate each woman towards an inner balance and understanding of herself and of her relationship to her outer universe.
As an outcome of the above, Mudra provides support services for women that are unique and adress deeper issues of the feminine than just political and economic empowerment.
